The Diploma programmes are 9-month programmes, consisting of undergraduate courses. They provide an intermediate training in the core areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, as well as in specialist areas of economics.
Diploma in Economics students are able to choose half their courses from a wide area, according to their interests. Throughout the teaching year, Diploma students receive weekly tutorials in economics and econometrics.
If Diploma students achieve upper second class standard, they are able to enrol the following September on any of the MSc programmes described in the Department's booklet 'Postgraduate Training in Economics 2007-8'. In this way, the Diploma programme is a potential stepping-stone to any of the Department's MSc programmes.
The Diploma in Economics provides a rigorous training in intermediate level economics, for those who may have completed a degree in another discipline, but who wish to further their understanding of the subject prior to continuing onto a Master's programmes, or to promote a career in a field requiring a economics focus or specialisation.
